Individual Reflections - Poh Jin Heng Princeton

Pre-camp Reflections

What interests you about this project?

The implications of the distillation plant fascinates me since i get to know about it during P5. The interesting part of the project is learning how purification of water through this method is so successful.

What do you want to learn by doing this project?

I want to know the implications of the simple experiment that i did in primary school on the large scale distillation plant. To learn about some of the negative points of building a distillation plant and hope to learn more things that may help me discover a solution.

What questions do you have about this project?

-What makes distillation so successful ?

-Is there any harm to humans working in the distillation plant ?

-What are some difficulties involving in the building, maintenance and functions of a distillation plant ?

-What is the main source in which the distillation plant is purifying ?

What do you personally want to have achieved by the end of this project?

I want know how the machine was build to fit the requirements of achieving almost pure separated content.

Reflections - Day 1

Earth science
Overall, i learned how tiny little details that conceal the small traces of the path of earthquakes in the past and how by finding a pattern, we can predict future earthquake to save lives. One of the fascinating example was that by studying corals, like how they died, how the grow due to the ever changing tectonic plate, we can use the corals as a history guide as to when earthquakes happened in the past.

I.T
I have gotten back ground knowledge about the two different types of animation and how by using complicated formulas to set the different special effects like the lightning. I learn that everyone can be an inventor and when we take the first step, we can eventually even surpass the professor and shine in the world.

Nano-technology
I have gotten an insight of how the nano technology helps affect the world. I learned that everything revolves those nano structures called molecules or atoms. The way they are structured, placed together, bonded or separated, has immense effect on the way we do things from now onwards. With nano technology, we are able to develop more stable structure and thus allowing us to scale to greater heights and break boundaries.

Reflections - Day 3

1)  Discuss how the project has deepened your understanding and broadened your awareness of the selected discipline.

It taught me how easy and simple it can be when it is simplified but the complexity of the work needed to ensure we get the desired solution.

2) What do you now understand about this discipline that you are unaware of at the beginning?

I understand how a typical distillation plant works in a nutshell.

3) Describe how you can connect what you have learned from doing this project to what you are learning in school?

I learned another way to learn that is to have your goal is to create trouble instead of having to make something work as it is more attention grabbing and on the other hand, may need us to us our brains even more.

4) Describe how you can apply what you have learned from doing this project.

I can better appreciate how drinks like alcohol comes by and not take things for granted.

5) At the end of the project, some new questions I have included ...

I there any way to speed up the process by like 5times ?

6) My Aspirations...

To create a distillation plant that can separate contents faster and get purer results.
